A day after a railway employee was found dead in his house in Ajit Nagar in Ludhiana, police have arrested his wife, daughter and daughter’s 21-year-old boyfriend in the case. The victim Kuldeep Kumar was found dead in his house with his throat slit on Friday morning.

The accused have been identified as Geeta Kumari, 41, Sudhiksha, 20, and Sudhiksha’s boyfriend Tarun Tejpal, 21. According to the police, Sudhiksha is the main conspirator in the case and she had been planning the crime for the last four months after her father damaged her mobile phone after he saw her talking to Tarun.

Enraged that her father was stopping her from meeting her boyfriend, Sudhiksha decided to kill him. She convinced her mother to support her in the crime by telling her that Kuldeep had been molesting her.

Made a failed bid to kill him on July 18

On July 18, the trio made a failed attempt to kill Kuldeep Kumar in his sleep. Following the failed attempt, the accused hired contract killers to do the job and promised to pay them Rs 2.50 lakh. “The contractor killer, Sagar, and his three accomplices turned up at their house in the wee hours of Friday and strangulated Kuldeep. They then slit his throat, and cleaned the blood with a towel,” said police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill.

The commissioner added that the contract killers took away two mobile phones and a motorcycle from the house to make it look like a robbery.

In the morning, Geeta and Sudhiksha raised an alarm, claiming that some unidentified men had killed Kuldeep when they were asleep, the commissioner revealed.

Initially, the police registered a case against unidentified persons on the complaint of Hardeep Kumar Saggar, the brother of the victim. But they suspected foul play by family members as there were no signs of forced entry into the house and it appeared to be a friendly entry. Police also recovered a blood soaked towel and dupatta from near the house.

The police chief said that Geeta, who is a Punjabi lecturer at Arya School, Civil Lines, told to police that Kuleep Kumar was an acute drinker and used to thrash her and Sudhiksha when he was inebriated.

One of the contract killers has been identified as Sagar of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. He and his accomplices are yet to be nabbed.
