A Gobind Nagar-based woman was arrested for drug peddling on Tuesday. The police claimed to have recovered 150gm heroin from her possession. The woman allegedly was going to hand it over to someone else.
A case under Sections 22/61/85 of NDPS Act was registered against the accused, Rubina Kaur, 25, at the Daba police station. According to the police, the estimated cost of the recovered heroin is around Rs 75 lakh.
The police said she has separated from her husband, and was also disowned by her family “because of deeds”. The scooter she was riding when she was going to deliver the drugs has also been recovered.
Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge of anti narcotics cell-2, Ludhiana police commissionerate, said she was arrested near Gobind Nagar, Daba road. “The woman tried to flee but the police were successful in arresting her,” he added.
Admitting she was into drug peddling for the past one year, the woman told she got the contraband from a man named Sheela.
She said she got trapped in drugs after separating from her husband. After she was produced in the court on Wednesday, she was sent to day-long police custody.
