The district administrative complex and police commissioner's office wore a deserted look, as most of the officials were busy completing tasks assigned to them for the preparations of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal's dream World Cup Kabaddi tournament.
To make arrangements right from the arrival of the kabaddi players to their departure from the city, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam has constituted as many as 17 teams, which are headed by senior officials.

Officials had been instructed to complete their tasks by December 9, sources said.

District food and civil supplies controller, who is already overburdened with the state government's revised 'Atta Dal' Scheme, has been asked by the deputy commissioner to make arrangements for 'tarpals' for the stadium, so that in case of rain, kabaddi grounds could be immediately covered.
Punjabi singer Manmohan Waris will entertain the gathering before and after the kabaddi matches.
Keeping in mind an untoward incident that occured a couple of years ago in Ludhiana, when huge bill of liquor, especially of the rooms in which the women kabaddi players stayed, the deputy commissioner has issued special instructions that if any player use mini bar or room service, it would be the responsibility of the hotel staff to get the bill for the same from occupants.
When contacted, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said that all preparations for the kabaddi matches would be accomplished well before the deadline.
However, some of the senior administrative officials on the condition of anonymity rued that a few days ago, official machinery was kept busy for collecting money under the policy of registration of illegal colonies and for now no routine administrative work would be done due to preparations of kabaddi matches.
Three kabaddi matches, including final match of women section and matches for third and fourth position in men section will be held in Jalandhar on December 12.
