A 70-feet high stainless steel Khanda (a double-edged sword), to be the tallest in the world, is to be installed at the Panj Piara park at Anandpur Sahib to commemorate the 350th foundation day celebrations of Anandpur Sahib from June 17-19.
The three-tonne Khanda manufactured by Sant Karnail Singh Tallewal would be brought to the city in the next few days.
Work on the installation of the Khanda through Kar Seva has started and the base is being constructed. The Khanda would be installed with religious maryada before the commencement of the foundation day celebrations with Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal dedicating the Khanda to the 'Sangat' on June 17.
Meanwhile, the main conference of the foundation day celebrations that is scheduled to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be held in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib. The decision was taken after deliberations with Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Mal Singh and reverses the previous decision in this regard.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said on Thursday that three more gates would be constructed on roads leading to Anandpur Sahib in addition to two already constructed gates on the Rupnagar-Nangal road.
"The names of the Panj Piaras (the five beloved) would be written on these gates," he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be presented a siropa during his visit to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib.
Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema held a meeting with senior officers of the state and of the Rupnagar district to review the arrangements for the celebrations.
