For actor Swwapnil Joshi, the easiest part about the past six months was the idea of losing weight, and the toughest was actually doing it. The actor, already on the heavy side, had bulked up further for his film, Ranangan, and he says he had given up on the idea of losing any weight at the time. Swwapnil shares, “My friends kept telling me that I needed to lose weight, but I wasn’t motivated enough to do so. And because I had put on so much weight, I thought it would be impossible to lose it. Then, producer-director Shreyash Jadhav approached me with Me Pan Sachin — my character is shown at two different ages, and nothing motivates an actor more than an interesting role. That was the first step towards becoming fit.”

Swwapnil credits his transformation to his fitness trainer, Volly. “Honestly, I envy people who say things like, ‘I am depressed, because I did not work out today’. I, on the other hand, hate exercising and am very happy if I don’t have to work out. My trainer divided my workouts across six days — a three-day workout and one-day break schedule. He motivated me like you would motivate a little child.”

Interestingly, this drive to lose weight introduced the Laal Ishq (2016) actor to sports, which he had stayed away from all his life. “For the first time in my life, I played a sport. Of course, it was a part of the film training, but that is when I realised what I was missing out on all these years. I also bought a cycle and have been cycling everyday.”

When asked how Swwapnil managed to control his diet, considering he is a foodie, he says, “I have not lost weight due to any fad diets. It has been through genuine exercise, healthy eating and eight hours of sleep. It is no rocket science. I don’t curb my desires and eat what I want, but I watch the quantity.” What about a cheat day then? “Well, I have been cheating on my body for 39 years now, so no more!”
