Madhavan is making a comeback of sorts in Tamil films with a vengeance. He has four films this year with one being the Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Charlie starring Dulquer Salman.

One of the finest actors of Tamil cinema, Madhavan, seems to coming back into Kollywood with a vengeance. He told the media the other day that “I am most definitely doing three Tamil films this year”. One of them will be the Tamil remake of Martin Prakkat’s Malayalam hit, Charlie, where Madhavan will reprise the role played by another riveting actor, Dulquer Salman.

Versatile actor Madhavan can play romantic roles like Alaipayuthey as well as dramatic ones such as Irudhi Suttru.

Charlie is a romantic story of a vagabond, essayed by Salman -- a kind of character that will suit Madhavan to the T. In fact, some of Madhavan’s most engaging performances have been in romances like Alaipayuthey and Kannathil Muthamittal -- both helmed by the renowned Mani Ratnam, who, in fact, did bring out the best in the actor, popularly addressed as Maddy.

The Tamil edition of Charlie -- also to be produced in Bengali and Marathi (and what a welcome) -- will be directed by Vijay, whose Deiva Thirumagal did well.

However, Madhavan is also quite capable of stepping off the romantic track to play a man with grit. We saw that in Irudhi Suttru, where he gets into the boxing ring as an ageing sportsman who finally comes to term with his own disillusionment after he coaches a firebrand of a fisherwoman from a Chennai slum.

Madhavan -- who is also known for some interesting Hindi movies like Rang De Basanti and the Tanu Weds Manu series, his grasp over Hindi being excellent since he grew up in Jamshedpur -- will be seen soon as a police encounter specialist in Vikram Vedha, helmed by the husband and wife duo, Pushkar and Gayatri.

It is still not clear what his third Tamil film will be.
