We had already reported that Samantha Akkineni was in talks to star in the Tamil and Telugu remake of 2016 Kannada indie hit U Turn, a paranormal thriller about the mystery behind the death of motorists who die tragic deaths after breaking traffic rules on a particular flyover in Bengaluru. On Wednesday, she made it official that she is part of the project and that she’s thrilled to start the New Year on a very positive note. “2018. Everything I want. Shoot begins in Feb for Pawan Kumar’s UTurn Tamil and Telugu. Produced by Srinivasa Silverscreen. Thank you always for your support.”
In early 2017, Samantha watched the film in a private screening in Bengaluru and she immediately expressed her interest to be part of its remake in Tamil and Telugu. However, the project didn’t materialise in the following months and rumours made the rounds that Samantha was replaced by Nithya Menen. A few months later, there were reports that Nayanthara might be part of the project. In November 2017, Pawan clarified that Samantha was still part of the project and the delay in the commencement of the project was from the production side. He told Deccan Chronicle, “The regular shooting will commence from January next year. The pre-production work is currently underway. Since Samantha is part of the project, we’re planning to make it big,” he said.
Samantha has exciting lineup of films this year. While Savitri biopic Mahanati will be her first major release of the year, she also has Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai and Vijay Sethupathi’s Super Deluxe. She also has Sivakarthikeyan’s yet-untitled project with director Ponram.
