Actor Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming release Mr. Local, which was scheduled to hit the screens on May 1, has been postponed by a couple of weeks. According to the industry grapevine, the film will now release worldwide on May 17. The makers are yet to officially announce the new release date. However, sources in the trade have already confirmed about the delay in the release date.
The film stars Nayanthara as the leading lady, making it her second collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan after last year’s Velaikkaran. According to reports, Mr. Local is the remake of Rajinikanth’s Mannan, which featured Vijayashanti in a role quite similar to what Nayanthara essays in the film. Mr. Local, which also stars Radhika, Yogi Babu, Sathish and Suman, has music by Hip-Hop Tamizha.
The film has been produced by Studio Green, which has joined hands with Siva for the first time. The project, originally planned to be made in 2016, took off after nearly two years of delay.
Studio Green had announced that director Vignesh Shivan will direct Sivakarthikeyan in their banner. However, when the Vignesh-Siva combo didn’t materialize, they had to rope in Rajesh, best known for films such as SMS and Boss Engira Bhaskaran, to take over the reins.
Sivakarthikeyan is currently shooting for his science-fiction film with Ramkumar. Tipped to be an alien invasion comedy, the yet-untitled project also stars Rakul Preet Singh.
Siva has two more projects in his kitty which will take off in the next few months. He has a film titled Hero with director PS Mithran and a yet-untitled project with director Pandiraj.
