We’ve seen Ajith ‘Thala’ Kumar play the cop and the comedian, but with Vedalam (Possessed by Evil), the 44-year-old attempts what he has never played before, a psychopath. In this 45-second teaser, the first to be released by the makers, we see Ajith as an offender but one who won’t run and hide; in fact he is the kind of a guy who will find you and hurt you.

There’s a sense of ‘evil-fun’ in Ajith’s characterization. He seems to mock his opponent, in this case, the cops. In fact, his antagonist played by model-actor Kabir Singh is the one who reveals Ajith’s character to us.

With his drugged eyes, a heavy drool in his voice and his openly taunting beefed-up self, Ajith is a clear departure from his past roles.

Vedalam is directed by Siva and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The movie also stars Shruti Hassan and Lakshmi Menon.
