CHANDIGARH: Captain Anand Amritraj just can’t figure why the present crop of players can’t keep their differences out of the press.

“This never happened in our time. We had a bunch of guys who got along much better. We never saw the kind of things which have been happening,” said Amritraj, referring to the recent fracas over the Olympic selection.
With the next generation of players looking on, shouldn’t the stars be careful about what they say?
“They should be much more careful about what they say. To go to the press at the drop of a hat is ridiculous in my opinion. There is stuff they don’t want to say then they get the press to say it and then the press misquotes… it just goes on! It boomerangs from there. It gets tricky when you read in the papers things you never said. It’s quite annoying.”
Amritraj is also not too happy that the controversy made the doubles players the focus of the press even in this tie. “If I was Saketh or Ramkumar I would be quite upset. They have been given no recognition at all. I know they are both novices. But the fact of the matter is that the whole limelight and thunder has been taken away from them. And they are the star players in this!”
