NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board announced it was inviting fresh bids for the mega IPL broadcasts rights on Sunday, three days ahead of its annual general meeting with three national selection panels to be formed on the basis of applications.
However, it could face contempt of court over these decisions as the Supreme Court-appointed RM Lodha panel presses BCCI to implement its directives for reform in full.
“We have already instructed them as recorded in the minutes of August 28 that the meeting (AGM on Wednesday) be restricted only to formal events of the past and nothing regarding the future. If they transgress that, then it will be a different matter,” a source close to Lodha panel said.
BCCI president Anurag Thakur, when asked about invoking the court’s ire, told a media conference: “I don’t see this defies the court order. Let’s leave it to the court to see whether our actions are right in the interest of cricket. We’ve not taken a single penny, we have created infrastructure.
“We’ve brought in many reforms. It is a continuous process, but can’t say ‘I can’t work till the order comes’.”
The BCCI has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court.
