Call for harmony between federations and ministry
NEW DELHI: National Sports Federations made it clear to the sports ministry that co-ordination between them and the Indian Olympic Association is the only way forward if India are to do well at major international meets.

This was a major talking point during the first review meeting headed by sports minister Vijay Goel post Rio Olympics. Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwalla put forward the example of Vikas Gowda as a case in point.
INJURY BEFORE RIO
Gowda was injured before his discus competition in Rio. Sumariwalla said this happened as AFI was unable to monitor his training abroad with funding TOPs.
Hockey India chief Narinder Batra said there were a lot of positives that came out of the meeting.
“We discussed the deficiencies. But all of us felt the need to move as a unit, Government, IOA and NSFs have to be on the same page,” he said.
