NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in the Narsingh Yadav doping case. Narsingh and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had alleged foul play after two of his samples showed traces of banned anabolic steroid methandienone.

The National Anti-Doping Agency’s anti-doping and disciplinary panel gave the wrestler a clean chit but the decision was successfully challenged by the World Anti-Doping Agency in the CAS, which awarded him a four-year ban. The CAS panel had dismissed the sabotage theory, saying the grappler failed to produce any real evidence in the matter while ruling that he took the “banned substance intentionally in tablet form”. Earlier, the CBI took over the case from Haryana Police, which had filed an FIR on July 27.

The case has been registered under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy, 328 (poisoning) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Acting on Narsingh’s complaint, Haryana Police had named a junior wrestler of Dariyapur Kalan in its FIR as an accused in the conspiracy.
