CINCINNATI: Angelique Kerber on Tuesday turned her attention to pressing ranking matters at the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Masters and the chance to pass Serena Williams in the No 1 spot.

Number two Kerber could seize command of the top ranking from the injured American after Williams handed back her Cincinnati wild card entry due to a shoulder injury. “It’s still a long way to go to this (No 1). I’m trying to not listen about that because I am here to play every single match,” she said.
ISNER, JOHNSON ADVANCE IN CINCINNATI
CINCINNATI: Big-hitting John Isner and fellow American Steve Johnson did not allow long periods of rain, drizzle and mist to derail their advance at the weather-hit Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Tuesday. Isner powered his way past Fabio Fognini 6-3 6-2, while the Johnson defeated Argentine left-hander Federico Delbonis 6-4 7-5 to reach the second round of the Masters 1000 event.
CONTEMPT CASE AGAINST BCCI
NEW DELHI: The Cricket Association of Bihar has moved the Supreme Court seeking contempt action against BCCI office-bearers for allegedly making ‘libelous’ statements and terming the Justice RM Lodha Committee as bogus and its recommendations as unconstitutional and illegal. The plea sought initiation of suo motu proceedings for criminal contempt against the BCCI office-bearers for making direct and indirect attacks on the SC judges and the institution of the courts.
