Rudra Dandey and Mukund Sardar were curiously dropped from the squad at the last minute and replaced by Shoaib Siddhiqui and Anjdeep Lad instead, on the eve of the team’s departure for the event in Pune.

Gupte has accused Ashok Dandey, father of Rudra, of allegedly threatening him.

Gupte made the allegations in a letter written to the Mumbai Cricket Association’s joint secretary Dr PV Shetty, a copy of which is in possession of HT.

“After the team was selected with everyone’s (co-selectors and coach) approval, Rudra Dandey was left out on basis of his performance. After announcement of the team, the incident happened that Dandey made me threaten call (sic) from mobile number 9967 ***** 9 at 7:57 pm which is unacceptable. He threatened me that he will go to the press and will expose all selectors. I request you to kindly look into the matter”.

Ashok Dandey denied threatening Gupte.

“I only wanted to know the reason for dropping my son after selecting him in the squad. He told me he (Rudra) was dropped due to non-performance. To which I told him that there are other players as well in the team who haven’t performed. He said do whatever you can and hung up on me. I don’t think this amounts to threatening,” said Dandey. He also denied calling from the mobile number mentioned in Gupte’s complaint.
