England's Lampard out of Euro 2012 due to injury

The Football Association says England midfielder Frank Lampard is out of the European Championship because of a thigh injury. Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has replaced him.

The Football Association says England midfielder Frank Lampard is out of the European Championship because of a thigh injury.

The announcement was made on Thursday, one day after Lampard was hurt during a training session. Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has replaced him.

England coach Roy Hodgson says "it's a huge blow for the team" after also losing midfielder Gareth Barry, who was ruled out on Monday because of a stomach injury and replaced by defender Phil Jagielka.

Backup goalkeeper John Ruddy missed out on the squad after breaking a finger in training.

England's first match at Euro 2012 is against France on June 11. The team will also meet Ukraine and Sweden in Group D.
