The other upset of the day was eighth seed Divij Sharan’s defeat at the hand of statemate Vivek Shokeen of Bengal 4-6,3-6. In the first set, Gide managed to retain his serve in the first game and lost it thrice after that. However, he broke Manuja in the sixth. In the second set Gide was broken in the first and seventh games.
In the Shokeen-Sharan match, the first set went with serves till the tenth game. In the tenth Shokeen broke Sharan to take the set 6-4. In the second set, the solitary break came in the fourth game. The only Women’s singles match saw fifth seed and local girl Treta Bhattacharyya defeating Sagarika Phadke of Maharashtra 6-4,6-2.
In the men’s doubles, fourth seeded pair of Saurav Panja and Manoj Kumar Sewa were defeated by Abhijeet Tiwari of Chattisgarh and Akash Wagh of Maharashtra 0-6,1-6.
