Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek and the Indian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the ATP Madrid Masters after getting byes in their respective first-round matches here.
The Indo-Czech pair of Paes and Stepanek is seeded fifth while the Indian team of Bhupathi and Bopanna is seventh seed.
Serena in second RD
Former world number one Serena Williams marked her first European appearance of the season with victory on the Madrid Open's striking blue clay courts on Monday.
Holder Petra Kvitova also started well as the third seed defeated New Zealander Marina Erakovic 6-2, 6-3.
