Police officers were trawling through video footage on Saturday and preparing to interview Oldham defender Tom Adeyemi, who was left visibly upset and had to be comforted by a number of players toward the end of a third-round match on Friday.

Merseyside police have opened an investigation together with Liverpool, but say there has been no formal complaint and that no one has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated behavior.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was recently banned for eight matches for racist abuse.
