Renedy amazed by the craze

Renedy Singh was surprised and it showed. Young boys from 16 city schools were scrambling for an autograph, a photograph or both with the former India midfielder and vice-captain.

"It's amazing. I wasn't expecting such a craze here," he said, during the opening ceremony of the 1st HT Inter-School Football Tournament at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.

"I could have imagined such a crowd in Kolkata or in other parts of eastern India but I never thought I would get a chance to meet a huge lot of young footballers and fans… It shows the enthusiasm the young generation for the game. I hope in future, football will have a greater following in cities of north India."
