Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna, who scripted singles victories in the play-offs against South Africa in Johannesburg in September, will each be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh by their long-term sponsors Steel Authority of India Limited.
Though Yuki Bhambri, making his Cup debut for India, defeated Izak van der Merwe in the final singles, the prizes have been announced only for the winners of the “live singles rubbers”. After taking a 2-0 lead on the first day, India clinched the tie 4-1. Somdev sealed the tie when he came back from a set and break down against Rik de Voest to win the fourth rubber.
Rained out
The start of the quarterfinals on Friday was delayed by rain. The forecast for the next two days is also not encouraging, as heavy showers are predicted over the weekend.
