He is only two years old in the industry, but Varun Dhawan has already been linked with many girls — Alia Bhatt, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon, to name a few. As a result, he’s earned labels such as ‘Casanova’ and ‘new-age Romeo’.
“See, I am not trying to create any image. This is how I am. And yes, I like talking to girls. Am I supposed to only talk to boys to not have such an image?” he asks.
In fact, Varun wonders how such talk has been cropping up, since he had become a recluse while shooting for his next Badlapur, an action-thriller directed by Sriram Raghavan. “I haven’t been in touch with a lot of people, so I don’t know how I was being linked with anyone. After the shoot ended, I went for one or two parties and the rumours started,” he says.
However, making light of the situation, he adds with a laugh, “Actually, I just realised that I’m mostly linked with tall girls.”
Incidentally it’s the launch of the teaser of his next movie that has the actor most excited. Hoping for a good response to it, he says, “While I was doing the film, my idea of the world was getting shattered because I was seeing such dark and brutal visuals at work.”
Like most Bollywood actors, even Varun Dhawan avoids speaking about his personal life. But despite that, every now and then, news about his so-called romantic involvements keeps surfacing. The latest rumour claims that Varun is back in a relationship with his old flame Natasha Dalal.
“I have decided to keep my personal life very personal because every week, I get linked to someone. When I get married, which isn’t happening anytime soon, I will make an announcement,” says Varun, while chatting with us at his plush Juhu pad.
The only thing that the actor is currently interested in is Sriram Raghavan’s film. For some time now, he has been busy preparing for his role in it. “I am scared for my mother; for her, I am still a baby, and I don’t know how she will react when she watches me do stuff that I have done in it,” he says.
Just as Varun is speaking to us about his mother watching his film, she walks into the room and adds to our conversation, saying, “When he was shooting for the film, Varun told us, ‘You either let me shift out of the house or let me be alone.’ He was angry all the time.” Varun has an intense role in the film.
Ask him if the much-publicised bold scenes in his film are what he’s concerned about, and he says, “The word ‘bold’ is used a lot when people try to sell a film. But for me, it’s all about real-life emotions. Nothing has been done just for effect in this film.”
Once he’s wrapped up his dance film, Varun will start working on director-brother Rohit Dhawan’s next venture. “I am excited and I am worried, because he will shout at me a lot,” says Varun, jokingly, before adding that this one is going to be his “most special” film so far.
“I am excited about it for emotional reasons as well, since Rohit is my brother,” says Varun, who reveals that he “will definitely do a film” with his father, director David Dhawan, in 2016.
