Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and his fan clubs have decided to adopt villages and develop them as a curtain-raiser to his foray into state politics.
Writing for his weekly column in Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, Haasan said he had alerted the government to several issues plaguing the state in the last few months but received a poor response. Now, he plans to back his words with action.
“There’s no point in pounding them with tweets. Their skin is too thick for that. I’m prepared to battle it out on the ground,” the actor said in his write-up.
Haasan said the villages adopted by his fan clubs will become model ones, but refrained from elaborating on his plans. “The migration of people from villages to cities can be checked if similar facilities and opportunities are made available in rural zones,” he added.
The actor said he would bring the brightest talents to the villages under his wing to show residents how various issues can be ably handled. He and his fan clubs will equip these villages with world-class health, sanitation, drinking water and education facilities, and once the model emerges successful, replicate it across rural Tamil Nadu, Haasan added.
Haasan will embark on a state-wide tour, dubbed as ‘Naalai Namadhe (Tomorrow is ours)’, from Ramanathapuram on February 21.
