Rohan Bopanna advances but Leander Paes out of Wimbledon men’s doubles
Leander Paes and his men’s doubles partner Adil Shamasdin lost 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (2), 8-10 against Austrian combine Julian Knowle-Philipp Oswald to crash out of Wimbledon Rd 1. Rohan Bopanna and Edgar Roger-Vesselin entered the second round.
Leander Paes and his Canadian partner Adil Shamasdin crashed out of the Wimbledon men’s doubles first round after losing 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (2), 8-10 to Austrian combine Julian Knowle-Philipp Oswald.
However, the Indo-French pair Rohan Bopanna and Edgar Roger-Vesselin defeated German duo Mischa Zverev and Dustin Brown 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Bopanna recently won the mixed doubles title at French Open.
Paes out
The match lasted three hours and 59 minutes as Paes saw yet another men’s doubles Grand Slam campaign come to an end without win.
The 44-year-old Paes’ last men’s doubles Grand Slam win came in 2013 at the US Open. Paes last won a Grand Slam in 2016 at the French Open. It was a mixed doubles title.
Another Indian pair, Purav Raja and Divij Sharan are in the second round.
