Radio-tagged Amur Falcon reaches breeding ground in China from NE India

Chiulon, named after a village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district and four other falcons namely Puching, Phalong-both names of villages in Tamenglong district, Irang and Barak - both names of rivers of the district, were radio tagged to study their flight route.

Radio-tagged Amur falcon heads for Northeast India from China

The falcon Longleng, named after a Nagaland district, was radio-tagged in October 2016 by WII scientists as part of a project to study the flight route of these long-distance migratory birds and the environmental patterns along the route.

Amur Falcon’s famed roosting site in Nagaland declared a temporary silent zone

Ornithologists describe the yearly Pangti spectacle as “by far the largest and most spectacular roost of any species of Falcon ever seen anywhere in the world”. It has earned Nagaland the moniker--the falcon capital of the world.

Ahead of Amur falcons’ roosting season, Manipur district bans air guns for birds’ safe passage

The Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong has ordered that air guns deposited with 36 village authorities “until the last flock leave their roosting or till November 30, 2019” and report of collection of air guns be submitted to his office by October 25.

Amur falcons travel thousands of kilometres and usually arrive in many parts of Northeast India including Tamenglong district from October first week and roost till the end of November.(AP)
