Haryana excise dept to crack down on liquor licence menace

Haryana's excise department is considering a crackdown on clubs, pubs, restaurants and other establishments operating without a liquor licence. Officials have identified around 20 facilities in Gurugram's Sector 29, Golf Course Extension Road and Golf Course Road that are operating without a licence for extended hours. To obtain a liquor licence, an establishment owner must apply for L4 and L5 licences. If the owner plans to keep the pub or bar open until 2am, an annual fee of INR20 lakh ($27,000) is required. For those that want to stay open until 8am, an additional INR18 lakh is required.

Twin suicides at Mantralaya trigger crowd-thinning measures

On an average, 15,000 visitors come to Matralaya on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays because the cabinet is held on Tuesdays and all ministers are present there in the first half of the week. 400 KV substation lying idle at Hinjewadi IT Park for 7 years

MahaTransco, a sister concern of MSEDCL, has been found to have wasted consumer money by not utilising a 400 kilovolt substation that was installed seven years ago at Hinjewadi IT Park. A Right to Information (RTI) query by city-based civic activist Vivek Velankar has found that the said substation has not been used ever since.

IIT-B students voice against paying for opting out of mess food

As per an RTI based on three dormitories which were submitted by a student group at IIT-B, approximately 60% who pay for the mess service avoid eating there. IIT-B charges every student ₹1,260 per month to opt out of the service, which comes to ₹7,560 every semester.

New tech boosting recovery of stolen phones

As per an RTI, in 2019, out of 43,397 mobile handsets that were reported stolen or lost in the city, only 2,088 phones were recovered. In 2020, 39,819 phones were reported missing or stolen, out of which, 1,916 were recovered. Similarly, in 2021, out of 51,030 missing phones, only 3,230 was recovered.

Only 23 of 105 parties can get, encash electoral bonds: RTI response

In response to an RTI application filed by Commodore Lokesh Batra (retd), State Bank of India said that only 23 political parties have opened a special current account made for redeeming and enchasing electoral bonds as of March this year.

SBI is the sole authorised bank by the government to sell and redeem electoral bonds.
