The future Costa Cruises flagship, expected to take to the seas for commercial cruises by the end of October 2014, will sail the Mediterranean on its first journeys. With a capacity of nearly 5,000 guests, the Costa Diadema, which is currently being built in Italy, will be the company's largest ship.

The Costa Diadema will sail from Venice on November 5, 2014. It will then begin a 7-day cruise that will pass by Marseille.

Other stops over the week will include Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Palma, Majorca, Civitavecchia, La Spezia and Savona.

Thanks to the Costa Diadema, the company will increase its offer in the Mediterranean by about 50% over winter 2014-2015.

The new flagship, which was designed to welcome 4,947 guests in 1,854 cabins, will join the Costa Cruises flotilla by the end of October 2014. It is currently under construction and is to become the jewel in the company's crown.

The ship-owner has promised that its new vessel will offer "exciting innovations in entertainment, technology and cuisine." This small floating city will be 306 meters long and 37.2 meters wide.
