At Emmy Awards, Priyanka Chopra is called Priyanka ‘Chopa’ and Twitter is up in outrage

Priyanka Chopra’s big day at Emmy Awards 2017 may have been a bit spoiled by the announcer calling her ‘Chopa’.

Priyanka Chopra’s fans on Twitter got riled up by a mispronunciation of their favourite actor’s name during the 69th Emmy Awards on Monday. The actor, who presented an award during the ceremony, was called ‘ Priyanka Chopa’ by the announcer.

‘And now the Emmy-nominated star producer of Blackish, Anthony Anderson and from Quantico, Priyanka Chopa,’ the announcer appeared to have said as Priyanka walked on stage with Anthony to present the Outstanding Variety Talk Series award to John Oliver.

While she seemed unfazed by the goof up, and presented the award in confidence, her fans on Twitters weren’t so forgiving. “Did this dude just call her ‘Priyanka Chopa’? wtf,’ a fan wrote on Twitter. “The guy said Priyanka Chopa and literally everyone in my family went “Priyanka Chopa!!,” wrote another.

The ‘Adele Dazeem’ (when John Travolta mispronounced singer Idina Menzel’s name at 2014 Oscars) moment is not new for Priyanka. Deepika Padukone was confused as Priyanka by paparazzi at Los Angeles airport in January. When asked to react on the confusion, Priyanka said, “I did see that and you know that’s just ignorance and it’s not right. I guess I’m the most popular brown face that everyone has known.’’

Priyanka wore a Balmain gown to the event and was applauded for her great look. She is currently working on two Hollywood films, Isn’t It Romantic with Rebel Wilson and Chris Hemsworth and A Kid Like Jake with Claire Danes and Jim Parsons.
