Netflix on Tuesday announced the fifth season of Black Mirror with a trailer and release date - June 5. The new season will feature three episodes, starring Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Andrew Scott, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.

Netflix acquired Black Mirror, a science-fiction drama, after its second season. The streaming service has aired two seasons of the show, along with a special interactive episode - Bandersnatch - which it dropped without any warning in December.

The new season promises more thought-provoking stories that’ll continue changing how we perceive technology, the future, each other, the world, love, privacy, sex, family, work and the afterlife.

Miley reportedly plays a performer who ‘appears to have undergone a transformation’ in order to reach a higher level of fame, according to Variety. Another episode features Andrew Scott (Sherlock), who seems to be infuriated at humanity’s addiction to technology, and finds himself in some sort of hostage situation. The third episode, starring Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) seems to tackle themes of family and love. The trailer ends with a Street Fighter-style simulated action sequence.

Charlie Brooker returns as the mastermind behind the show, along with producer Annabel Jones. No directors have been announced yet, although previous episodes have been helmed by the likes of Joe Wright, David Slade and Jodie Foster, among others.
