Chhoti Bahu, Zee TV, 7.30 pm
Very confusing episode. A pair of feet steps into a plate of kumkum and walks on pristine marble. Another pair of feet steps on broken glass and walks towards an idol. Kumkum feet take a step forward.. bleeding feet take a step forward. Marble dulhan lifts her ghunghat and marvels at her palace-like sasuraal. Second dulhan walks into an empty room.. no dulha, saas, no no one. Were they kidnapped?
Miley Jab Hum Tum, Star One, 9 pm
It’s a little late in the day but these guys are only just celebrating New Year’s eve. Chhamak chhalo and geeky sister (anxious as ever) wait at the door, both wearing shades of blue and brown. These are ‘boy colours’ it is argued.
Meanwhile, college hottie (on a break from her off-shoulder dresses) introduces her boyfriend in a gold suit and purple shirt.. this ‘hunk’ would make Mithunda proud.
Sisters’ sob story
Bandini, NDTV Imagine, 10 pm
The promos had a Bengali feel but the soap is set in Gujarat. And there are three lively sisters, one oooooold nanaji ordadaji who informs them (and us) about how they’re orphans and he must work to make ends meet. The sisters, still in high spirits, skip all the way to a village mela. And look at stalls selling bangles and golas. They’re oh-so-poor and yet manage to turn up in the most vibrant clothes and make-up. It happens only on television. The lead girl is one to watch out for, though.
Uttaran, Colors, 10 pm
This household is full of annoying people. There’s the lead poor kid who’s always asking, “Kyuuuun ammu?” Then there’s the pouty rich kid in lacey dresses who goes, “Icchhaaaa, khelo naaa”. And now there’s a new teenager.
Easily the most annoying, this one with sticky red lips, looks longingly at the malkin’s make-up set. The bling adults are as irritating. Malkin wears lipstick on her already coloured mouth, decks herself in huge chunks of gold and then leaves for a ‘bahut badi paarty’ with her husband who remarks ‘romantically’ “Ab pata chala itna waqt kyun laga.” Ugh!
Kaisi Laagi Lagan, Sahara One, 11 pm
Twitching eyebrows, chunky jewellery, planet-sized ring, sheet of fake hair and bindi.. yes, it’s Sudha Chandran. She’s the saas who hates her bahu and wants her out. All she needs to do is open her eyes real wide, and stand outside bahu’s room when night falls. But instead of that, there’s a figure in white with hair covering her face outside bahu’s room window. Inspiration: The Ring or.. Scary Movie? Or both?
