Mythological television shows are really popular right now, and the newest entrant in this genre, Buddha, has been garnering a lot appreciation for its production value and story. However, the identity of the actor playing the lead character in the series was kept under wraps so far.

Now, we have learnt that a newcomer from Jaipur, Himanshu Soni, has been finalised for the role.

A source says, “Himanshu had an intense grooming session and was trained in martial arts, Tai Chi, dialogue delivery and acting, amongst other disciplines, to mould him into the character of Prince Siddhartha. He also did a 10-day Vipassana course as a part of this exercise to know the character in-depth and be able to perform the role in the optimum way” The makers will be visiting the holy place, Sarnath near Varanasi to unveil the actor at a grand event, since it's a significant pilgrimage spot for Buddhists.

Producer Dr BK Modi says, “For the role of Buddha, we auditioned several actors — seasoned as well as newcomers — but Himanshu matched 28 out of the 32 characteristics that Buddha possessed. He’s a down-to-earth person with a likeable persona.”

Himanshu says, “It’s an honour to play such a significant role. The producers and the channel have put a lot of faith in me. It was important for me to understand the character and the personality of Prince Siddhartha as well as his journey to becoming the Buddha. The training was tough, but it made it easier to understand the nuances of the role."
