I'd love to meet Katrina, says one legged dancer Shubhreet

“Even after the accident, when my stitches were still raw, I’d dance on Sheila Ki Jawani every time I saw that song on TV,” she says, adding, “And I’d love to meet Katrina Kaif in person, she’s my favourite.”

Having danced her way to India’s heart, differently-abled dancer Shubhreet Kaur Ghumman also received recognition from the Punjab state, on R-Day. Ghumman, who lost her leg to an accident didn’t let an amputated leg dampen her spirit. She continued dancing on one leg.

“Even after the accident, when my stitches were still raw, I’d dance on Sheila Ki Jawani every time I saw that song on TV,” she says, adding, “And I’d love to meet Katrina Kaif in person, she’s my favourite.”

This Katrina Kaif fan has found many supporters in Bollywood, including actor Salman Khan. “When people told me that Salman has tweeted about me, I couldn’t believe it at first. Up till now, I used to watch him on TV, now he’s watching me. It’s like a dream,” gushes Ghumman, who has now made it to India’s Got Talent on Colors as a contestant, after clearing the auditions.

Her journey thus far hasn’t been easy. “There are no dance schools in India that take in physically-disabled people. When I approached schools, none of them believed I could dance, so I mostly trained on my own.” But she wants to make sure that others don’t suffer the same fate. “I hope to start a dance school for physically challenged people,” she says.
