Sushant Singh Rajput, who plays the male protagonist, Manav, in Pavitra Rishta on Zee TV, will be making three short films.

There’s a love story, an adaptation of a Stephen King’s novel and a third film on schizophrenia that goes on the floors first. Rajput will be acting and directing all three films that are all in the pre-production stages.

Confirming the news he says,“Schizophrenia is a delicate subject and has been explored in many Bollywood films. But all of them send out the message that such patients are mentally retarded, which is not true. I’m researching on the subject and meeting with doctors to project the illness correctly.”

Rajput, who has done theatre with Nadira Babbar and Barry John, plans to go to the US to pursue a course in filmmaking at UCLA and on his return, assist on a Bollywood movie.

“I’m not taking on any new shows now. I wanted to study after finishing my work as an assistant on Mohit Suri’s Raaz 2. But Ekta Kapoor offered me Kis Des Mein Hai Mera Dil and Pavitra Rishta followed. There was no way that I could quit then but now, I’m sure I want to make movies,” he asserts.

When asked why he hadn’t approached Balaji Telefilms or Alt Entertainment to finance his films, that he plans to screen at all major international and domestic film festivals, Rajput smiles, “Ekta doesn’t know about the films so far.

I haven’t really discussed anything with her yet but after Pavitra Rishta concludes, hopefully with Archana and Manav getting married, I might just meet her with my scripts. And then, we’ll see.”
