South Asia is increasingly becoming the focus of BBC World. In a new programming initiative, the channel is launching several new shows on the region.

Nik Gowing, one of the best known faces of BBC World News in India, has started anchoring an analytical news show for South Asian viewers.

The Hub with Nik Gowing replaces World News Today, another news show anchored by Gowing. It airs between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm daily. “This is structured differently to World News Today,” says Richard Porter, director of news content, BBC World News. “Gowing will conduct interviews and debates relevant to the region.”

Other new shows in the initiative include Impact Asia with British Asian presenter Mishal Husain and another show to be fronted by Lyse Doucet. While Husain will present news from a pan-Asian perspective in an informal style, the other show will provide a forum for untold human interest stories.
