Tejasswi Prakash: Pehredaar… ended abruptly, we wanted something good to replace it

TV actor Tejasswi Prakash says her character in the new show, which is set in the backdrop of Rajasthan, much like Pehredaar Piya Ki, is more of a modern woman.

After the much publicised controversy around Pehredaar Piya Ki’s regressive content, the show was finally taken off air. Now, the makers of the show are all set to replace the fiction with a brand new show. Interestingly, most of the cast of Pehredaar Piya Ki will be retained in the [new] show, except for child actor Affan Khan, who essayed the character of Ratan Maan Singh. Tejasswi Prakash, who played the lead role of Diya Ratan Singh in the earlier show, will again play the pivotal character in the upcoming fiction. And she is quite happy with the new development.

“This is a completely new show and it’s not a sequel [to Pehredaar Piya Ki]. It’s a love story. We ended Pehredaar Piya Ki abruptly, so we wanted something [as good] to take its place. The story is set in the traditional backdrop of Rajasthan [much like Pehredaar Piya Ki] and I play a modern character,” says an excited Tejasswi, who is currently prepping up for her role.

While the actor has already shot the promo for the show, sources say that Shantanu Maheshwari is being considered to be paired opposite Tejasswi.

Talking about working with same cast, Tejasswi says, “Our show was number one on the channel till the time it was [being] aired. Even BCCC (Broadcasting Content Complaints Council) allowed us to run the show on a different time slot and it only proved that the show wasn’t anything that people complained about.”

She adds that since there was too much happening around it, there was no point in stretching the show. “So the channel, the makers (Shashi and Sumeet Mittal]) and us (actors) mutually took the decision. But it was unfair for actors and even the makers couldn’t recover the money given the show had a massive budget. Hence, we are back. It feels like we had just taken a break, as everything else remains the same.”

Asked why Affan is not a part of the new show, Tejasswi says that she is no one to decide about the cast. “Honestly, I am happy that he has started school again. As far as missing him is concerned, I can meet him whenever I want to,” she quips.
