They might be the ideal sons and daughters on screen but, in real life, it’s their moms whom these TV actors consider their idols, and the best gift of life. Read on.

Jay Soni poses with his mother Kiran

My mom is my greatest support and my best friend. She always taught me not to give up easily and always be positive in life. When I got my first award for my TV show, I called mom on to the stage to accept it. I am married now but today I would tell mom that it’s she who is still my first priority.

I also plan to cook something for her today. She herself is a great cook, and her aloo ki subzi was even famous on the sets of Sasural Genda Phool and Sanskar. But today I won’t make her cook, I plan to send her off for a nice spa package so that she can relax all day – a much deserving break that she deserves.

Ma got me to this world and that’s the best gift that she has given me. She taught me to respect people and be humble always.

Without Maa, my life is not complete, and I’d really like to tell her this once again today. I gifted her a house a while back, so this Mother’s Day I am planning to buy her a nice sari, jewellery and a nice cake.

Then, of course, I will take her out and make her day special by spending time with her. And yes, my mom cooks the best ‘macher jhol’ (Bengali fish curry) in the world.

My mom is a very spirited woman. Last year, I planned a vacation for her to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, and she enjoyed it a lot with her friends.

Today I’ll take her out for a candlelight dinner and spend as much time as I can with her ... after all, my mother is my first girl friend, my guide, my inspiration and my strength. Nothing is more precious to me than the unconditional love she has given to me. In fact I have even taken her middle name. Dedication towards family and work, and carry a smile even in hard times, are two out of the many things I learnt from her. And yes, no one can make pao bhaji as she does!

Roopal Tyagi with her mum Poonam

I am away from my hometown, Bangalore, but I will definitely send flowers and may be a nice bag for my mom, who’s my best friend and means the world to me.

She’s not just an inspiration in my life but my guide too – she is always right about what is right and wrong, so whenever I am confused I always seek her advice. She’s taught me to be strong, and the best gift that she ever gave me is my brother!

Mom, in fact, has devoted her life to me and my brother, and I would really want to be a mother like her one day.

My mom is the most giving person that I have ever come across in life – she has no demands in life and is always ready to help others with whatever little she has. I used to be quite a spoilt brat at school, who’d spend money over snacks not just for myself but also for my friends. Once dad was going through a trying time financially and he asked me to control my habits for a while. I was obviously a bit upset and that’s when mom gave me her entire savings from whatever money dad gave her to run the house, and told me, ‘If you like sharing your food with others, do that ... don’t change, be what you are...’ I still get emotional thinking of that day. Mom is a person with whom I can get away with anything, all I need to do is make a puppy face. So on days I wouldn’t be in a mood to go to school, I used to make a puppy face, and mom would instantly agree, and ask me to stay put in my room till noon. If dad asked why my room is locked, she’d say that the servant has cleaned it so it’s closed ... so, my mom is that cute!

My mom is my world, my strength, my source of positivity and someone who can make me feel good about myself with her pep talk, always.

She also has a great sense of humour, and is an amazing mimic.

As filmy as it might sound, I really really want to say that my mom is like God to me ... she’s the best!

Whatever I am today is because of her ... she has always supported me like a true friend, encouraged me in everything that I wanted to do ... I love you a lot mom!

The best gift that my mom has given me ever is ‘LIFE’. I have learnt two of the best things in life from her – first, how to keep a balance between one’s professional and personal life, as she has been a working lady all her life, and second, to be loving, respectful, honest and forgiving.

In spite of being a working woman, she’s such a great cook that whatever she cooks for me becomes my favourite. I won’t be able to meet her today as she is in Punjab and I am shooting in Mumbai but I’d definitely tell her that mom, each day of my life is mother’s day because I owe everything to you. I love you!
