Congress approached the National Human Rights Commission, alleging 'atrocities' by Uttar Pradesh police on protestors opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the proposed National Register of Citizens. The party delegation was led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and also consisted of leaders like Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Tweeting about the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that UP government was waging a war against its own people. Singhvi, while addressing the media about the meeting, said that the delegation had highlighted 9 points about police action in Uttar Pradesh.
