BCCI postpones IPL 2021 after several players, staff test positive for Covid-19

  • The 2021 season of the Indian Premier League suspended indefinitely on Tuesday. This comes after many players & staff from different teams tested positive for Covid-19. The decision was taken in an emergency meeting by the IPL Governing Council & BCCI. Earlier, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel had confirmed the development to news agency PTI. Monday's KKR vs RCB match was postponed after two KKR players tested positive. The CSK vs RR match, scheduled for Wednesday, was also postponed. Match was postponed after two CSK staff members had tested positive for coronavirus. The T-20 tournament began on April 9 & ran smoothly for about a month till Monday. Just days before, three Australian players had pulled out of the IPL, citing Covid concerns. Meanwhile, a second Covid wave has overwhelmed the country's medical infrastructure. The 2020 IPL had also been held in a bio-secure bubble in the UAE. At that time, infections were only reported before the start of the league.
