Prime Minister Narendra Modi countered West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘outsider’ jibe at BJP leaders during a public address in Kanthi, West Bengal. ‘Bengal has bound India in the spirit of Vande Mataram and yet here Mamata Didi terms us 'bohiragoto' (outsider). We all are children of this land, no Indian is an outsider in this land,’ PM Modi said. This comes after the Chief Minister has repeatedly accused BJP of sending people from outside Bengal to campaign in the state ahead of the crucial assembly polls. Elections to the 294-member state Assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
