Meira files nomination for Speaker post

Congress leader Meira Kumar filed her nomination for the post of Lok Sabha on Tuesday before PDT Achary, the Secretary General of Lok Sabha. Kumar, a Dalit, whose nomination was welcomed by all politicians, was accompanied by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. Kumar, a five-time lawmaker, will be the first woman to hold this office if elected. She was chosen by the ruling UPA following which she resigned from the Union Cabinet.
