Sachin Tendulkar conferred group captain rank by IAF

Sachin Tendulkar was conferred the group captain rank by the IAF on Friday. He is the first sportsperson to be conferred a rank by the air force. The rank - equivalent to a colonel in the army - was conferred on him in recognition of his achievements as an Indian and a cricketer. In 2008, India's World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev had received the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army.
