SC grants bail to 80-year-old PAK microbiologist

In his petition Dr Chisti had cited his advanced age as one of the grounds for being considered for bail. He also pointed out that he had spent nearly two decades behind bars. Dr Chisti further pleaded that he be allowed to return to his home town Karachi or to live in Delhi owing to the "vitiated" family atmosphere in Ajmer. The apex court asked him to file a separate petition for this, surrender his passport and not leave Ajmer till further orders.
