Villagers in bird flu hit areas lament paltry compensation

Villagers in India's bird-flu hit northeast Tripura state lament lack of adequate compensation by the government as veterinary staff continues culling poultry to stave off the spread of avian influenza. More than 25,000 chicks and ducks have already been slaughtered in Tripura this month after it was hit by the H5N1 strain. On the other hand the veterinary officials in Kalakacchya village, about 50 kilometers north of capital Agartala have said that they are working to check the spread of the disease.
