Iran has reportedly outlined plans to target critical digital infrastructure across the Gulf if the United States and Israel resume military strikes, expanding Tehran’s warnings beyond military bases to undersea internet cables, data centres and artificial intelligence facilities. According to Reuters, two senior Iranian security officials said Tehran could target undersea cables and prevent repair crews from restoring damaged connections. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Deputy Yadollah Javani reportedly said Iran could target seven major internet cables running beneath the Strait of Hormuz. Multiple cable cuts could disrupt regional internet connectivity, financial transactions, e-commerce and cloud computing, while wartime security risks and insurance costs could delay repairs. Reuters also reported that the Red Sea could become a more significant target, potentially with support from Yemen’s Houthis.
