On the day that the Congress party suffered defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi addressed the press and took responsibility for the party's performance. Gandhi, who also lost his family bastion Amethi, congratulated his opponent Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party and asked her to treat the constituency 'with love'. The Congress chief was also contesting from Kerala's Wayanad. He also said that his contest with the BJP is over ideology and appealed to his party cadre to not fear anything.
