India tops global pollution deaths chart; 16.7 lakh killed in 2019, says Lancet

The latest report by Lancet commission on global pollution death paints a very grim picture with total 66.7 lakh deaths in 2019. Out of which, whopping 16.7 lakh deaths were reported just in India. The report states that one out of every 6 deaths in the world is due to toxic air. Lancet commission talks about India's attempts to cut down household air pollution & mentions the PM's Ujjwala Yojana. But states that sadly the efforts are yet to show any substantial results. Remember, 93% of India has air quality levels above the W.H.O safety guidelines.
