Just days after Donald Trump claimed progress toward a Gaza ceasefire, Israel's Energy Minister Eli Cohen said the country should seek full control of the Gaza Strip and dismissed the possibility of Hamas voluntarily disarming. According to the South China Morning Post, Cohen said Israel already controls around 70% of Gaza while military operations continue. Meanwhile, fresh Israeli airstrikes were reported across Gaza City, Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah and Jabalia. The developments have raised fresh questions over whether diplomacy can keep pace with the fighting.
