England skipper Joe Root struck a fine century in the series-opener against India. Joe Root scored a century to make his 100th Test even more memorable. At the end of Day 1, England's score was 263/3, with Root playing on 128 runs. Root made a 200-run partnership with opener Dom Sibley (87) for the 3rd wicket. India ended the day on a high as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sibley in the 90th over. Root said that he was delighted with how he played and hopes to build on it the second day. Root said, “I feel I am in good form and I need to make sure that I cash on it. Over the course in my career, I have not always made big scores.
