‘Slapped them’, ‘force it out’: Iran jabs US after ‘revenge’ strikes in Iraq
Iran conducted a ‘revenge’ strike against the United States of America on January 8, 2020. Tehran conducted a missile strike on two military bases in Iraq which are reportedly host to US forces. Iran claimed that the strikes were in response to the killing of its senior military commander, Qassem Soleimani, who was the target of a US drone strike on January 3, 2020. Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani claimed that the ultimate revenge would be to force the US out of the region, while the nation’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Tehran had ‘slapped’ Washington with the strikes.
