As Donald Trump is all set to leave office, his administration has now declassified a document that reveals its strategy to counter China’s rise. The document says that India’s rise will be a counterbalance to China in the Indo-Pacific region. The document also states that the US wants to accelerate India’s rise and capacity to serve as net provider of security and major defense partner, increase cooperation on shared regional security concerns and encourage India’s involvement beyond the Indian Ocean Region. ‘The United States Strategic framework for the Indo-Pacific’ was approved by President Donald Trump in February 2018.
